Children are expensive. I haven't even had mine yet and they're
already dipping into my pocket book.
Well I found out
that since during my initial enrollment in the benefits for my job I
didn't choose short term disability I can't change it now, which
means while I am away on maternity leave I will not have any income
coming my way.
There's
supplemental disability insurance but no matter what I look at it's
for families that are planning to have a baby. My pregnant state is
considered a preexisting condition. My job does have medical leave
but in the state of Florida employers are not required to pay you during that
time, its UNPAID leave. All it does really is ensure that when I come back I
get my same job back at the same rate or one equal to what I had at the same
pay rate. That's it.
I've been putting
money away ever since we found out I was pregnant, but now most of
the money is going to Dr. bills. My insurance only pays 80% and I pay 20%. It
may not seem like much now but when testing has to be done and ultrasounds and
all that good stuff, it adds up.
My boyfriend will
still be working of course but in this economy unless it's a
$100,000+ annual job (sometimes not even that) a one income house is hard to
live in.
I'm trying to stay
positive and look at the happy side of having a kid, but these bills
are piling up.
